These natural tragedies are quite horrid. The loss of life, destruction, homelessness, disruption, fear, lack of security, no adequate medical care, no food, no clean running water -- and the children.
If you've been too cooped up with your bills, personal struggles and too self-absorbed to learn what happened in Haiti...........time for a reality check.

Read an interesting Technology Article in today's Sunday Paper.............but before that.
Who is our target audience? What do we know about them?
A client and marketing team will identify a specific demographic group and develop a program "targeting" that group of individuals. Veteran marketers know that hitting the mark with an effective campaign is hard to do at times and involves many elements.
The plan or blueprint Traffic Venues Weather :( Staff Execution
Often the demographics of the team is sculpted to replicate the "target person", which would make sense. Have you ever found yourself on a team and you were older or younger than the majority, perhaps you are of a different ethnic group, or religion. A tweak of one's perspective -- like a consciousness can make all the difference. Why aren't people stopping for me? Am I being effective?.........if you're goal and results oriented these are some of the questions you may be asking yourself.
Consider the following example of a mindset that might be unfamiliar to a 20yo or a 50yo. It has much less to do with how old you are or feel, and rather understanding who you are marketing to.
............ My 2-year-old daughter surprised me recently with two words: “Daddy’s book.” She was holding my Kindle electronic reader.................Here is a child only beginning to talk, revealing that the seeds of the next generation gap have already been planted. She has identified the Kindle as a substitute for words printed on physical pages................My daughter’s worldview and life will be shaped in very deliberate ways by technologies like the Kindle and the new magical high-tech gadgets coming out this year — Google’s Nexus One phone and Apple’s impending tablet among them. She’ll know nothing other than a world with digital books, Skype video chats (very elightening article) with faraway relatives, and toddler-friendly video games on the iPhone.
Add this somewhat humorous observation -- that even in real life how fast technology is changing our world.
............My friend’s 3-year-old, for example, has become so accustomed to her father’s multitouch iPhone screen that she approaches laptops by swiping her fingers across the screen, expecting a reaction.
Did you ever have a hamster as a pet? - LOL.
........my 4-year-old niece received the very hot Zhou-Zhou pet hamster for Christmas, I pointed out that the toy was essentially a robot, with some basic obstacle avoidance skills. She replied matter-of-factly: “It’s not a robot. It’s a pet.”
This technology shift is also creating "mini-generations."
................“People two, three or four years apart are having completely different experiences with technology,”..........These mini-generation gaps are most visible in the communication and entertainment choices made by different age groups...
Some of the above examples are more dramatic. b/c these toddlers perspectives of the world are the furthest for all of us. Their initiations of their environments, their cultures, heritages, and socio economic upbringings which shape all their perspectives on life. And yet who among those reading this can imagine the perspective of a world w/o books. Or let's fast-forward to the time when there is no Kindle.
It used to be enough to smile and hand out samples of food on crackers, and offer a coupon.....next! Functional Foods are emerging that are designed to support specific healthy attributes or nutritive deficiencies in our diets. What is your Nutritional IQ? (Examples of Functional Foods) Car makers are targeting certain groups as the "perfect transportation" creating portable work environments. we recently completed a campaign for an auto manufacturer -- we picked up the vehicles at a local dealer. This particular vehicle was an entry level sports edition, starting at $16-k came equipped with Blue-Tooth Car Technology -- the General Manager of the dealership didn't know anything about it (which must be why they hire you!) -- we set it up while driving in Boston traffic -- consumers loved it -- we loved it -- our enthusiasm transferred to the consumer. We knew this to be true because repeatedly we would be asked, " Where -can we see the car and test drive one?"
We're about to embark on an exciting convergence of technology within our industry that drives traffic to live promotional events. Our phones will become tracking devices, and marketers will be able to send an SMS message or IM via the Mobile Web directing us to these events, as well as live couponing.
It's never been more important and more difficult to understand the subtleties of our target audience. With our own healthy perspectives and openness to each other's differences the client gets what they're paying for.
Lots of exciting ops on the horizon -- get ready -- and BTW, Facebook isn't the new Wikepedia. Social Media maybe a great way to locate and create awareness -- once we have them listening -- be prepared, knowledgeable, engaging -- be conscious. Keep growing your knowledge base.

That's right today's blog post deals with money savings and improved communication productivity.
Anyone that begins working with us at Forerunner, clients and associates alike realize right away that we are huge fans of Google, and the Google Business Model of free services. Have you heard about Google's Free Phone Service?
In the past few years Google has expanded beyond just Free Software, beyond Cloud Computing, beyond Google Apps. Step up to Google Voice -- which is a web based (naturally) phone service - that combines all your different phone lines -- home., office, cell phone -- into one phone number. It's a little more complicated than that in essense you will now be originating and receiving calls via one phone number, you can screen your calls, send calls directly to voicemail. There is so much more -- and yes this is free. Currently Google does not charge for this service and there are no ads on the dashboard -- and no ads to listen to.
Just think if all you ever had to do was give out one phone number, and people could reach you anywhere you are at the moment -- that's right. A client tries you at the office and you're not there, maybe they don't have your cell number - so they redial the receptionist and begin cajoling them into giving out your cell number. How about if a parent, sibling, or your child is in a crisis and must reach you instantly? Don't get nervous, you can limit where a caller can reach you. Suppose you're a Field Sales Manager, and it's important for your field people to reach you -- but not necessarily on your home phone -- it's your decision -- you can restrict or permit where each person in your contact list can reach you -- home, office, cell.
Dashboard and the Contact List, from the dashboard and by accessing the Contact List you are able to control the "Call Settings" of each person in Your Contact List, the default is for all calls to ring on each registered phone number. The Google Voice is fully synched from any internet accessible computer and cell phone.
"Call Settings" make Google Voice totally customizable right off the shelf:
- Assign Which phone lines to route each contact, or send Contact directly to voicmail
- Assign Contacts to a Group and deliver custom recorded specific Voicemail Messages
- Require Contact to Announce themself by name before a call is put through
There's actually a lot more to it. FREE SMS Messaging (texting), easy and convenient from your phone but also from your desktop too. Iphone, Berry, Palm who cares -- you're not living until you text from a regular computer keyboard. If you texted from your cell, laptop, touch, desktop -- all messaging is recorded and available on any accessible device.
Voice Mail couldn't be easier -- notices are sent to your phone as a SMS Message, and an email is sent to you containing an audio file as well as a transcript of the message. Again all the data is available on all your devices -- Well not your "typical home phone"
Announced Caller Feature -- imagine answering a call and hearing "You have a call from [callers name] to accept press 1, to send the caller to voicemail press 2.
Placing Calls are easy -- just bring up your dashboard either enter a complete phone number, or call someone from your Contact List -- select what phone -- home office or cell you'd like to use for the call -- within 4 seconds you are called by Google Voice -- kind of a little anti-hacking step, and your call is immediately put through.
Still more -- to get the total complete picture check it out for yourself. GV has a lot more bells and whistles than what you're probably used to, or maybe dreamt about. We've been using Google Voice for abt 6 months now since it was first introduced, and find it to be hard to live without now. There are lots of neat apps you'll imagine and incorporate specific to your own needs and circumstance.
Google Voice is free to sign up, you may have a wee-bit of a wait, however a week to 10 days and you'll receive acceptance and a Google Voice Number in your home based area code. Oh we should mention, if it's not obvious -- it's best to have some sort of media package to access the web on your cellphone. Also you might want to checkout your individual cell plans to understand whether you will be incurring any additional service charges.
Like all Google Products and Services, support is mostly handled by a User Forum Community, search for your problem, or post your own question and someone will respond to you. Of course since I am acting as "chief instigator" -- by introducing you all to Google Voice, feel free to shoot me an email if you have a question.
There's lot's more to share with you -- all the time -- best way to not miss other tips in the future is to Subscribe to the Blog at the top of this page.

Here's an interesting idea for all aspiring actors, actresses...........well basically anyone in performing arts. The website we're recommending is http://librivox.org. It is a growing resource of out of date/out of print books and other previously published literary works -- short stories, poems, novels, non-fiction. After browsing the catalog there is something for almost any interest -- fun to explore.
If you currently do Voice-Over work, or have been told you have a great voice why not try...........here is your opportunity to share your beautiful voice with the rest of us, and do some good -- all at the same time.
As a listener it couldn't be easier, all you do is browse the Catalog, locate something of interest -- download the mp3 file -- load it onto your iPod or other MP3 Player.
We suggest just going ahead and exploring the website for yourself. Besides just being a "depository" for literature -- it offers people an opportunity to volunteer our services by being a Recording Reader. As a Rcording Reader you have the ability of not only serving this community, but also creating hosted tracks of your own voice on the web.
It couldn't be easier to get yourself setup and started -- while it may not be as sophisticated as working in a sound-proof, digital recording environment -- it demonstrates something else about yourself. Here is all you need: - your voice
- some free software
- your computer
- and maybe an inexpensive microphone
If hosting sample tracks of your voice were not enough -- Volunteerism is so vitally important. Depending on your personal interests there are various ways that you can participate. Literary works are given in different languages as well -- so we're not just talking (speaking of) English. Here is a list that was copied from the volunteer page of Librivox. - collaborative: many volunteers contribute chapters of a long text
- solo: one volunteer reads an entire book
- short works (prose and poetry): short works and poetry!
- dramatic works: “actors” record parts, all edited together.
- other languages: projects in languages other than English.
The above list offers ways to showcase your individual talent, or work in a collaborative with others.
Actually Librivox is not just for performers -- the rest of us get the enrichment, entertainment, stimulation of listening to these forgotten literary works.
Heading over to the gym now to listen to some recorded Ghost Stories by Charles Dickens -- going to scare myself into shape. And if you do volunteer your voice and services, send us the link so we can post it as an update to this blog-post. Portfolio Op Reader Comments

Christmas lights are burning full bright, anticipation of the holidays, people leaving work early, businesses shutting down for holiday schedules.
Hard to believe we are 8 days from 1/1/2010. Harder to imagine 2 years from the end of the world, and 10 years past since the Y2K disaster.
Our attention will soon shift to the New Year and the celebration, and then what? Do you make a New Year's Resolution/s? Will you be making any resolutions this year? When do you begin to think about it?
The tradition of New Year's Resolutions dates back to the Romans -- the custom was to look back and reflect, like viewing from a "rear-view mirror" and looking forward to the future. In any event here are interesting sitings to get us thinking.
I've recently found a blog called the Everyday Athlete, here's a link to an article that seemed to fit this post. Photo by Reading Public Library
Often Resolutions are geared to Problem Solving, I thought it was quite interesting when doing research I found this blog from our US Gov site was at the top of the page. Wow, talk about a resource of information -- you could start now and not be done by New Years. http://www.usa.gov/Citizen/Topics/New_Years_Resolutions.shtml
Seth Godin famous author, blogger, marketing guru is always insightful, owner of the #1 Business Marketing Blog, comes this "Zen-ful Approach to looking at our problems, and creating resolutions. It's all good!
Happy Holidays, and Exciting New year.

Calling all ice skaters -- Growing up in NYC I always loved at least once a year taking a trip to Central Park, Wollman's Rink, and go ice skating outside.
While skating around you could look up and see yourself surrounded in a distance by skyscraper office buildings, luxury hotels and coop apartment buildings. Of course for those that could afford it outdoor ice skating at Rockefeller Center was like being on display in a window at Saks 5th Avenue.
I know I'm probably dating myself, but rent the original Home Alone Movie and you'll see a little about what I'm referring too.
Now living in New England and the beautiful Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts, there are many natural lakes frozen over and if the ice has been prepared you just step out and start skating.
The Boston Bruins of the NHL are getting set for an annual event of playing a game @ Fenway Park on New Years Day. Only this year they will keep the rink setup for 2 more weekends in January.
I can imagine that being able to ice skate on the same field as the Red Sox play on has got to be one of the highlights of the winter of 2010. And if you do make it please send us some pictures and we'll post them to the Blog.
